National Special Recognition
Special Recognition - Lynne and John Newell, Old Elizabethans CC
Lynne and John were awarded for their significant contribution to the Old Elizabethans Cricket Club and cricket across the county of Worcestershire. The Lifetime Achiever award was presented to Lynne during the Worcestershire Cricket Foundation Cricket Collective Awards Day in September. It is great to see that the ECB has recognised their efforts at the National Cricket Collective Awards.
Here's Lynne and John Newell's story:
Lynne and John Newell played a significant role at Old Elizabethans CC in Worcestershire for many years.
Sadly, John, who was also known as 'the Major', passed away in August 2023 at the age of 80.
At Old Elizabethans, John was in charge of the grounds team, and his knowledge of ground equipment was exceptional. He remained the Pavilion manager until this year and was committed to the club throughout his tenure.
Lynne, who is the Director of Operations, has played a crucial role in ensuring the club's success, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the years, she has been involved in several initiatives, including introducing women's and girls' cricket and disability cricket to the club.
Lynne is still actively involved in the club every Wednesday evening and on matchdays and is always looking for ways to engage the local community.
John and Lynne's contributions to the club have been enormous, and their impact has been significant, even though much of their work has been behind the scenes.
John Newell sadly passed away in August 2023, aged 80. Our deepest sympathies to Lynne and all family and friends.
