Worcestershire Seniors Cricket Association
With the start of a new season fast approaching (2023) and indoor nets about to start at Malvern College Sports Centre, many senior cricketers will be thinking ahead about their game and what they can offer to stay keen and enthusiastic. For those players resisting the ageing process and determined to carry on playing competitive cricket but looking for a new challenge to extend their playing career, we have the solution for you…………
Worcestershire Seniors Cricket Association offers competitive midweek cricket, playing against neighbouring counties and beyond at Over 50’s, Over 60’s and Over 70’s level. The competitive cricket that is played is serious but enjoyable for the player that still has that winning mentality.
Over 50’s cricket has been running since 1984 and has 39 counties plus the Channel Islands participating. There are 5 regions with Worcestershire in Group 4. Last year they played matches against Wales, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire. The top three places qualify for the playoffs with a final in September. This is tough group, and the cricket is of a high quality, The criteria for playing is that all players must be 50 years of age and be a member of a Worcestershire club. We also run an Over 50’s 2nd and 3rd XI such is the demand for players to continue playing at a high standard.
The Over 60’s currently run three sides playing in the National 60+ County Cricket Championship. With Worcestershire Over 60’s 1st XI playing in the Midlands section against Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Shropshire.
The Over 70’s run two elevens. The Championship side play on Thursdays and last season Worcestershire played in a group that also included Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire, Devon, Somerset and Leicestershire. The Over 70’s also have a second eleven who play in a friendly league against other local counties.
Seniors cricket is growing and flourishing. It offers competitive cricket as well as good fellowship and with the added advantage of taking part in overseas tours with more recent countries visited, India, Trinidad and Ireland. Worcestershire Seniors cricket are constantly looking for new players so we would encourage anyone interested to get involved.
