Worcestershire Street Sixes is making its welcome return back to the streets of Worcester this summer. Hosted by Worcestershire Cricket, in aid of the Worcestershire Cobham Cricket Trust, the county’s second annual Street Sixes cricket tournament will be held at the Angel's Place and down the High Street on the afternoon of July 10, 2017.
The launch of the event of the was held at the top of the Worcester Cathedral recently.
This is on the back of a hugely successful first year where the city centre based competition of soft ball cricket captured the imagination of the locals. This year will see 24 corporate business teams taking part in a fun and fast paced 6-a-side cricket format.
Street Sixes is raising funds to take cricket into disadvantaged communities, where young people have limited opportunities, and is being sponsored this year by the Worcestershire Ambassadors as one of their community support programmes. Modus Creative and Sanlam UK are also backing the initiative on the back of last year’s success.
Entries of teams of 10 are being invited to sign up by the end of May.
Tom Hill, Cricket Development Director, Worcestershire Cricket, who is the brainchild behind the creation of Street Sixes said; “As well as raising funds to support disadvantaged young people, this is an original and fun team building exercise for staff, colleagues, clients and suppliers to get together as a team.
"We already have teams from local businesses including Ringway, Worcester County Council, Modus and Santander already signed up and are honoured to have the support and backing of the Worcestershire Ambassadors to help highlight this cause and our event. Special thanks to Worcester Cathedral too for their support in letting us practice on top of the Cathedral tower! This is after all about bringing cricket where there are no ball games allowed.”
